Tennis elbow happens with a lot of repetitive use of an elbow such as hammering a nail, pruning roses or a hedge, or actually playing tennis. The overuse of the arm causes damage and this in turn causes pain and stiffness in the joint.
Chiro adjustments can improve the working of the arm and set it on a course to healing. A chiro talks to a patient about his life in general before he examines him. An overall picture of the patient’s behavioral patterns often reveals bad posture habits that contribute to the occurrence. The chiropractor then suggests a series or treatments that can be anything between 4 – 6 sessions. If required, the chiro advises a period of rehabilitation, and the patient will see the chiro from time to time and he will make minor adjustments if necessary. Thereafter a maintenance period can follow, similar to a dental check-up where you will see the chiro every six months or so.
Prevention is recommended and that would include switching arms where possible and exercises to use or turn the arm and wrist in the other direction. In this instance, RICE would help the process, i.e. rest the elbow or arm, ice or cold packs on the affected area, compression of the elbow or arm, and elevation of the limb.
Rehabilitation exercises for elbow and arm injuries include the following: during the early and mid stages: Isometric biceps and triceps, partner-assisted biceps and triceps, and triceps pushdowns.
During the second and last stage, the sportsman will do these exercises: triceps extension with weights, triceps kickbacks with band, and triceps dip on the ball, bicep curl with band and bicep curl at angle.
Chiros are well trained and educated and study for six years before they qualify. Their treatments are quick and safe to such a degree that even babies come for chiropractic adjustments. The elderly and pregnant woman can also receive treatments. Babies are treated with gentle manipulations of the spine and limbs in fact all patients receive the same caring approach.
