    Chiropractic Care And Spinal Adjustments

From the brain, the nerves travel down the spine through the vertebrae to the rest of the body. If the vertebrae lose their motion ability or normal position through chemical imbalances, trauma or stress the nerves are irritated. Messages cannot reach the muscles, organs and other tissue as intended and the body cannot function as it should.

Symptoms of this disruption can be irritated nerves, inflammation, muscle spasms, arthritis and abnormal vertebrae movement. Chiros can manually manipulate the spine to improve the situation and with it, the pain. When vertebrae return to their normal position the nerves can function again and health is restored.

Three levels of care can be implemented to restore normal nervous system functioning. The first is the active level and a number of regular treatments will be required to correct the problem. Even though the patient may have no symptoms any more at this stage, the rehabilitation phase allows the chiro to make a few adjustments if necessary. He keeps an eye on the alignment of the spine and ensures that healing progresses as planned. The maintenance phase is a regular check up to enable the chiropractor to spot problems before they occur. By doing this, patients can prevent another crisis from disrupting their lives.

If the spine is injured in any way, the body protects the area with abnormal growth. If chiropractic care does not take place, the joints may become immobile, uneven or rough. Vertebrae should not be allowed to fuse together, with chiro treatments the process can be stopped, slowed down or stopped.

Normally the spinal discs are spaced in such a manner as to allow for nerves to flow and perform at optimal level. Any misalignments of the vertebrae restrict the movement of the nerves in the nervous system and irritation may result. Eventually calcium deposits may occur and with it immobility and degeneration increase. If joints fuse together, they are immobilized and nerve atrophy is the result. With chiropractic care, an attempt is made to prevent complete disk degeneration.
