A chiropractic clinic diagnoses and treats disorders of the musculoskeletal system and instructs patients in ways to prevent further injuries. They treat adults, children and babies and the treatments are quick, easy and affordable. Many medical aids provide cover for chiro treatments.
Chiropractors are qualified health professionals who subscribe to certain minimum standards. Their main area of expertise is the back but they also treat other ailments such as headaches and whiplash complaints. Apart from chiropractic techniques they sometimes also use alternative therapies such as massage treatments. They do not prescribe medication but can refer patients to medical practitioners who can. They also do not perform operations rather they use mechanical means to correct spinal problems and thereby relieving pain.
By manipulating the spine they can re-align it and open the nerve pathways that run from the brain to the rest of the body. Even if the bones are only slightly twisted, messages do not travel up and down the spine as they should and disease and pain can be the result. When pathways are open the body can function properly and effectively.
Back pain can be chronic or acute – the latter happens suddenly and lasts for a short period while chronic back pain is a pain that recurs and lasts longer. Back pain can be caused by trying to move heavy of immovable objects, weak stomach muscles, extended periods of inactivity and of course accidents. Accidents injuring the back can occur in many ways e.g. car accidents and sports or work-related accidents. Once the back has been injured, injury or pain can recur at any time. That is why prevention is so important; once you have a bad back you should protect it by any means possible.
Do the following: Strengthen the back and stomach muscles with the correct exercises, sleep on a firm mattress, stand tall and lift up your head and shoulders, sleep on one of your sides with the knees bent and also sit up straight; whether you sit in a car or in front of a computer, support your back and sit up straight.
